Welcome to Italy! Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Meet your fellow travelers for orientation meeting with the tour director, followed by a welcome dinner.
We begin our exploration of Venice with a boat ride to glassblowing factory where you will see the demonstration of traditional Venetian glassblowing. Then, on to St. Mark’s Square. Your walking tour includes such highlights as the Golden Basilica of St. Mark, the bridge of Sighs and Doge’s Palace. The remainder of the day is free to explore on your own. Take a gondola ride to the Lido or shop for fine Italian fashions.
This morning leave for Ferrara, a Renaissance gem in the Emilia-Romagna region. After an orientation tour, continue to Pisa. Upon arrival, view the famous Piazza dei Miracoli with its Leaning Tower, the Baptistery and the Duomo. Continue on to Florence for a dinner and overnight.
Today our morning tour begins with a visit to the Academy of Fine Arts, which houses Michelangelo’s superb ‘David’ and many of the master’s unfinished works. Walk to the splendid Duomo with its magnificent dome designed by Brunelleschi and see the Baptistery with its renowned "Gates of Paradise”. The tour ends at the Piazzale Michelangelo with the most spectacular view of Florence. The balance of the day is at leisure.
After breakfast, we depart for Rome, the ‘Eternal City.’ Enroute we stop in the medieval city of Assisi, renowned for its 12th Century Basilica of St. Francis.
Morning visit to the Vatican and its breathtaking museum including the Sistine Chapel. Stroll thru St. Peter’s Square, passing Bernini’s famous colonnade. Next visit St. Peter’s Basilica, where you will see Michelangelo’s Pieta, sculpted when he was just 24. Then continue on to visit the Colosseum, ancient Palatine Hill overlooking the Circus Maximus and the Imperial Palace, and the Roman Forum.
A whole day on your own in this fascinating city gives you enough time to visit some of the wonderful shops, galleries and museums. Tonight, a dinner in a local restaurant.
After breakfast we transfer you to airport for your homebound flight.
